Thai tourist resort Krabi is flying high after the opening of its second passenger terminal at Krabi International Airport!

The stunning Thai holiday resort of Krabi in southern Thailand has been welcoming growing numbers of tourists to its hauntingly beautiful beaches, picturesque islands and stylish resorts, while its transport network has sometimes struggled to cope. A brand new, state-of-the-art air terminal, designed to handle the sharp increase in passenger numbers and additional international flights, finally opened its doors on 1st April 2012 at Krabi International Airport. The sleek, new facility known as Terminal 2, is intended to cater solely for domestic flights, leaving the original terminal, now called Terminal 1, entirely free to operate international flights. The unveiling of Terminal 2 dramatically increases the capacity at Krabi Airport, doubling it from 4.38 million passengers a year to some 8.76 million. This is of course, great news for Krabi thriving tourist industry!

If the ambitious plan gets the green light, then some 30 million baht will be ploughed into constructing a bilingual international school that will be able to compete with the very finest in Bangkok and significantly raise the standard of education in Krabi. It is proposed that The Andaman International School be located in Tambon Krabi Yai and offer an English and Thai curriculum for primary school children upon its completion in 2015. Krabi residents are keen to learn if the project, which is being backed by Krabi mayor Kiratisak and has already been submitted to the cabinet for approval, will get the go ahead.
